“Pakistani
Doctors’ Forum” held at the Pakistan High Commission Canberra

On Sunday
7th July 2019, A Forum of Doctors of Pakistani descent was held at the High
Commission of Pakistan, Canberra, which was largely attended by doctors from
various states of Australia. Welcoming the delegates, High Commissioner Babar
Amin lauded the services of Pakistani diaspora in Australia to their country.
He especially praised the Pakistani doctors for their contributions in the
health sector and projecting a positive image of Pakistan through their
high-quality professionalism.
The Agenda of the meeting included
Pakistan - Australia collaboration in joint medical research, Linkages between
the Medical Universities of the two countries, opportunities for Pakistani
nurses, paramedics and allied health workers, export prospects for Pakistani
pharmaceutical, surgical and dental products and medical camps/ relief works in
Pakistan and Australia’s South Pacific neighbours. The High Commissioner
informed the participants about existing potential in these areas and the
various initiatives already taken about some of the Agenda points. He urged the
Pakistani doctors to advise and assist the High Commission in achieving these
objectives.
Presentations were made at the Forum by Dr. Khizar
Tauseef Ashraf (Sydney) on Joint Research Potential, Dr. Yousaf Haroon Ahmad
(Victoria) Nurses and Allied Health, Dr. Majid Gondal (Melbourne) on Family
Medicine, Dr. Shahbaz (Melbourne) on Relief Work, Dr. Ishtiaq (Gold Coast) on
Follow up Methodology, while Dr. Nadeem Siddiqui (Canberra) and Dr. Ahmed Khan
(Bendigo) also made presentations about their medical charity and voluntary
work in Pakistan. The diplomats of the High Commission, Consul General Sydney
and Consul General Melbourne also participated. Sardar Adnan Rasheed CG
Melbourne also made a presentation on the scope for cooperation in the field of
Nuclear Medicine.
All the delegates actively participated in the discussion session after the
presentations. They appreciated the conduct of the Doctors’ Forum which
provided an opportunity for brainstorming and deliberation on various issues in
a structured manner and draw practical and workable suggestions. The delegates
opined that the Forum helped galvanize the Pakistani doctors’ community for
developing a road map and a Plan of Action. The outcome and recommendations of
the Forum were formulated on the basis of the views expressed by the
participants.
