Premier Gladys Berejiklian hosted Iftar Dinner 2019  at the NSW Parliament House

On Wednesday 22 May 2019, The Premier of New South Wales Hon. Gladys Berejiklian has hosted an Iftar dinner for those in the NSW Muslim community observing the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. The event was held at the Parliament House Sydney.

The Premier’s Iftar Dinner was attended by State Minister of Sports, Multiculturalism, Seniors and Veterans, Member for Drummoyne The Hon. (John) Anthony John SIDOTI MP, Member for Parramatta, Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education The Hon. Dr (Geoff) Geoffrey LEE, interim Leader of the Labor Party in New South Wales Hon.Penny Sharp MP, Member for Oatley Hon. Mark Coure MP. Member for Granville Julia Finn MP, Member for Auburn Hon. Lynda Jane VOLTZ, MP, Member for Lakemba Hon. Jihad DIB, Member for Canterbury Hon. Sophie COTSIS, Chairperson Multicultural NSW and Chairman Parramasala Dr G.K (HARI) Harinath OAM, President the ICPA - Hajj Mohamed Mehio, Grand Mufti of Australia Dr Ibrahim Abu Mohammed, Consul General of Pakistan Abdul Majid Yousfani, Consul General of Turkey Mr Melih Karalar, Consul General of Malaysia, Consul General of Indonesia, Members of Parliament, Muslim Imams and community leaders, as well as religious leaders from other faiths.

In her speech, the Premier of New South Wales Hon. Gladys Berejiklian said that I am Pleased to host this year’s Premier’s Iftar dinner! NSW is a cohesive and resilient society and the sacred month of Ramadan presents an opportunity to strengthen these bonds – across faiths, cultures and communities.

“I’d like to wish everyone observing the holy month, Ramadan Mubarak,” Premier Hon. Gladys Berejiklian said.

This year's interfaith message was an important one, especially after the horror of the Christchurch massacre in March.

Minister of Sports, Multiculturalism, Seniors and Veterans, Member for Drummoyne the Hon. (John) Anthony John SIDOTI starts his speech with Assalamu Alaikum and said this event reflected the efforts of the NSW Muslim community to promote interfaith harmony and understanding.

Premier's Iftar dinner during the month-long Muslim religious festival held at State Parliament tonight included leaders from all faiths along with political and community leaders and I thank you Premier for arranging this historical event. We all should work together and respect everyone believes, thoughts and cultural for making strong Multiculturalism liberal society in Australia.
