The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) is an association of Commonwealth parliamentarians who, irrespective of gender, race, religion or culture, are united by a community of interest, respect for the rule of law and individual rights and freedoms, and by pursuit of the positive ideals of parliamentary democracy.

The CPA comprises nine regions: Africa; Asia; Australia; British Islands and Mediterranean; Canada; Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic; India; Pacific; South-East Asia. Active CPA branches exist in 175 national, state, provincial and territorial parliaments, with a total membership of approximately 17,000 parliamentarians.

CPA headquarters is in London. The Executive Committee for the CPA comprises representatives from each region; Australia is one of the founding members of the CPA. There are 8 Australia Region branches including New South Wales.

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association held 36th Australia and Pacific Regional Conference in Sydney from 23-26 October 2017.Pakistan participated in this important global conference. The members of Pakistan Parliament Major Retd Tahir Iqbal and Dr. Nisar Ahmad Jatt represented Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Both Parliamentarians are well known respected politicians of Pakistan. Major Retd Tahir Iqbal was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan as a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League (N) from NA-60 Chakwal-I in Pakistani general election. Dr. Nisar Ahmad Jatt was elected as a member of National Assembly on a ticket of Pakistan Muslim League (N) from NA-81 (Faisalabad) in Pakistani general election.

The Hon John Ajaka MLC, President of the Legislative Council and the Hon Shelley Hancock MP, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, High Commissioner of Pakistan H.E. Naela Chohan and Australian officials welcome Pakistani 2 members delegation and appreciated Positive role of Pakistan in Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. The both members National Assembly of Pakistan met with representative of different countries and discussed with them about the 63rd Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference, 1-8 November 2017 which will be held in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

On Wednesday, 26th October 2017, the High Commissioner of Pakistan for Australia Her Excellency Naela Chohan hosted a reception in the honour of the delegation of Pakistan. The event was held at the Sir Stamford at Circular Quay Hotel, Sydney and attended by the Hon. John Ajaka MLC, President of the Legislative Council, Hon. Shaoquett Moselmane MLC, Hon. Dr Mehreen Faruqi MLC, Hon. Paul Gerard Lynch MP, Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan Dr Khalid Ejaz, Consul General of Pakistan in Sydney Abdul Majid Yousfani, Mr Tom Duncan, Honorary CPA Australia Regional Secretary & Prominent members of Australian Pakistani community.
