On Saturday, 22 February 2020, Koocha-e-Saqafat, Australia presented a Urdu stage show, Ehtesab (Accountability) and Aamnay Samnay (Face-to-Face). Once again, it was the initiative of Javed Nazar, Founder of Koocha-e-Saqafat Australia who with his team made all the efforts to bring three famous Pakistani artists to Sydney. These artists are not only famous in Pakistan but also have a strong fan base in Australia. Those Pakistani artists were Qavi Khan, Sohail Ahmed and Jawad Waseem.

It was Qavi Khan’s third visit to Sydney whereas Sydney siders had their first chance to see a live performance from Sohail Ahmed and Jawad Waseem. Qavi Khan is a legendary artist of Pakistan who has received numerous awards for his performance in all major media including TV, stage and films. Sohail Ahmed and Jawad Waseem are also very popular artists famous for their stage and TV comedy shows. Senior artist Uzma Gilani, the Consul General of Pakistan in Sydney Muhammad Ashraf and Hon. Shaoquett Moselmane MP was Chief Guest.

The program was held at the Rockdale Town Hall and was attended
by over three hundred people from diverse cultural background where Urdu was
the common denominator. The first
part of the program was titled Ehtesab
(meaning: accountability). It was a dialogue between Sohail and Jawad
discussing the current affairs in Pakistan and how people justify their
wrongdoings as a system’s problem.

Their dialogues were very nicely crafted and were humorously delivered that made people laugh at almost every sentence and at the same time reflect on the thinking of common people. Qavi Khan who performed as a thoughtful professor who would keep appearing on the stage for a short period and then would go off. Qavi was commenting on their dialogues in a
philosophical manner bringing their attention to self- reflection and accountability. The message of accountability was that every person in the society should correct himself in order to make a just society and should not blame the system.

The audience thoroughly enjoyed this segment of the program and gave a standing ovation to all performers. The second part of the program was a QA session with three artists where Sohail Ahmed acted as the moderator. It was an interactive activity where audience asked questions and gave comments. Another famous Pakistani artist, Ms Uzma Gilani, who is now based in Sydney was also invited to the stage. She brought more colours to the show (wujood-e-zan say hay tasweer-e-kainat mein rang).

The audience equally enjoyed this segment of the program and actively asked questions and provided comments. It was getting late at night when Sohail Ahmed called for the end as artists were getting very tired. In the end, Former Mayor of Rockdale city, Hon. Mr Shaoquett Moselmane & CG of Pakistan Mr. Muhammad Ashraf praised the services of Javed Nazar and Koocha-e-Saqafat in bringing the community together and providing healthy entertainment for Sydney’s multicultural community.
