The Book Launch Ceremony of Saeed Khan

The Urdu Society of Australia arranged a book launch for Australia’s renowned Urdu poet, Mr. Saeed Khan. The ceremony was held on Friday, 20th July at the Cyprus Community Club in Stanmore. Mrs. Omila Bir and Mr. Arif Sadiq were the MC’s of the evening.

Saeed’s second collection of Urdu Poetry “ Eik Muthhi Mein Mere Khaab” was recently published in Lahore and launched across Pakistan. The book received numerous fine reviews by the media and literary circles.

The guests were welcomed by Omila Bir followed by a brief introduction of the book and poet by Mr Arif Sadiq, the secretary of Urdu Society. Ms Clara Mason of James Joyce Foundation presented her essay on Saeed’s poetry and recited English translations of his work.

The President of Urdu Society of Australia, Dr. Shabbir Haider described Saeed as a natural poet and an intellectual. Mrs. Yasmeen Shad spoke about Saeed's personal & public life.

Mr. Arshad Saeed of the of the Urdu Academy of Victoria and Mr. Muhammad Ali of Urdu Bazm-e-Adab of Canberra were also in attendance and provided a brief overview of the book. Respected poets, Syed Najam Sibtain Hasni and Mr. Om Krishan Rahat, provided an in depth analysis of Saeed’s poetry and appreciated the quality of his work.

The Delicious Dinner was prepared by Javed Chaudhry of Jinnah Restaurant. After the buffet dinner, Mr. Arif Sadiq informed the audience about the Society’s annual International Mushaira and Urdu Conference to be held on 19th & 20th October 2007. This was followed by Mr. Saeed Khan addressing the crowd and thanking everyone for their attendance, support and best wishes. Saeed also recited selected poetry from his book. This was followed by performances from renowned classical singers Abhijit Sarkar and Rucha Lange who sung Saeed Khan’s Ghazals/poetry.

The book launch was unique, a well organized program and was attended by more than 250 selected guests.
