The function was attended by over 200 people who were briefed about the objectives of SAMAA. A panel discussed all short and long term tasks which SAMAA aims to undertake. The immediate objective is to serve the elderly of South Asian Muslim community living in various areas of Sydney through a team of volunteers. Needs of elderly may include transporting them to mosques for Friday prayers, to doctors, for shopping etc, arranging occasional picnics for them in various areas of Sydney and provide other care as may be needed. In long term SAMAA aims to establish a retirement village facility.

SAMAA requests all Muslim elderly from the subcontinent to register with it. It also requests younger men and women to register as volunteers. Volunteers may also benefit from this programme by requesting the elderly to teach their children Quran, Urdu etc.
