The High Commissioner for Pakistan H.E. Abdul Malik Abdullah hosted a Farewell Dinner in the honour of the Pakistani Community of Sydney NSW

His Excellency Abdul Malik Abdullah, the High Commissioner of Pakistan in Australia hosted a farewell dinner in the honour of the Pakistani community in Spice of Life, a local restaurant in Harris Park, Sydney on Friday, 11 April 2014. Despite a weekend evening and a very rough weather, the attendance of guests was very high, which reflects the respect and love the community holds for Mr. Abdullah. He is returning back to Islamabad after completing his illustrious diplomatic service career, spanning over 34 years both in Pakistan and abroad, on 19 April 2014. Before, coming to Australia as the High Commissioner, Mr. Abdullah worked as Ambassador of Pakistan to Senegal with concurrent jurisdiction of six other countries in the region. Earlier he served as Pakistan’s Consul General in Frankfurt, Counsellor and Second Secretary in Tokyo and First Secretary in Washington DC.

The programme started with the recitation of a few verses from the Holy Quran by Hafiz Gulzar Ahmed. At the outset Mr. Abdul Aziz Uqaili, Consul General of Pakistan welcomed the guests who braved the weather and reached the venue despite heavy rain and thunderstorm.

The Consul General  Abdul Aziz Uqaili briefly introduced the service career of Mr. Abdullah as a successful diplomatic and public functionary. He also commented upon the personality traits of the High Commissioner as a patronizing senior, as a helpful and friendly colleague and as an excellent human being. Mr. Uqaili also informed the guests that, contrary to the tradition, Mr. Abdullah was hosting a farewell dinner in the honour of the community instead of the Consulate General and the community giving him a farewell dinner.

Thereafter, Mr. Abdul Malik Abdullah addressed the audience and thanked them for their unflinching support and assistance in making his stay in Australia successful and glorious. He highlighted the achievements of Pakistan’s Missions in Australia during last three years (2011-14), in which remarkable progress was achieved in increasing bilateral relations between Australia and Pakistan in diplomatic, political, economic, commerce and defence realms.

The High Commissioner His Excellency Abdul Malik Abdullah said that today Sada-e-Watan Sydney Internet edition completes 9 years of Great Community Service of Australian Pakistani Community.

High Commissioner H.E.Abdul Malik Abdullah said,On the Behalf of Pakistan High Commission Canberra and Pakistan Consulate Sydney, I would like to congratulates 9th Anniversary to Chief Editor of Sada-e-Watan Syed Zafar Hussain Shah Sahib, his family and team of sincerely voluntary professionals who work hard for maintain International standard of Sada-e-Watan. High Commissioner said that Zafar Shah Sahib always did a positive activities & 24 hours keep a very close contact with Pakistan Mission in Australia and whenever there is any community issue, he ask for provide assistance to Pak Community members. His Excellency Abdul Malik Abdullah said that all local Pakistani Media always cooperate with High Commission but I would like to publically special thanks Rehan Alavi of SBS Radio and Syed Zafar Hussain of Sada-e-Watan.

In the end, on the request of the Consul General and on behalf of the Consulate General and the community Hon. Dr. Mehreen Faruqi, MLC presented a flower bouquet to Mr. Abdullah.

Similarly, Rana Iftikhar, President of Pakistan Australia Council and Pakistan Australia Business Council, presented a flower bouquet to him. He also presented shields to the High Commissioner in recognition of his remarkable services and achievements. The dinner, comprising of delicious and spicy Pakistani cuisine, was finally served before concluding the programme.
