On Sunday, 11th
August 2024, Dr Sayeed Khan President Indus Health Australia and Ghazala Khan
hosted Indus Health Australia’s Launch Lunch at Sandy
Point Sydney. The High Commissioner H.E. Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri was Chief
Guest of the event. Senator Dr Mehreen Faruqi, Legend Uzma Gillani and other
leading professionals & Community Leaders attended the Indus function. Dr
Sayeed Khan Chairman, Dr Imran Kassam Director and Sara Butt of Melbourne Director
talked in detail about the Great Services being provided in different parts of
Pakistan by the Indus hospitals.
The High Commissioner
H.E. Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri and Senator Hon. Dr Mehreen Faruqi appreciated the
sincere work of Indus in the healthcare sector.
Professor Dr
Bari Khan Founder and CEO of Indus Hospital and Health Network is coming again on
a tour of Australia. He will present at the Indus Fundraising Dinner in
Melbourne on Saturday, 16th November and in Sydney on Saturday, 23rd
November 2024.

Gentlemen, Honourable Dignitaries,
I
acknowledge the traditional custodians of the waters and lands on which we live
and work and pay my respects to the Elders- past, present and future.
Good afternoon
and welcome. It is a profound Honor to stand before you, as the Chairman of
Indus Health Australia.
I extend my
heartfelt gratitude to each of you, present here.
I would like
to especially acknowledge our high commissioner Jenab Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri,
Senator Mehreen Faruqi and Uzma Gillani for joining us, this lovely Sydney
afternoon, to discuss an issue that is critical to millions of lives—the health
situation in Pakistan and the efforts of Indus Hospital and Network.
Pakistan faces
a daunting health crisis. With a population of over 225 million, the country
struggles with a myriad of health challenges. Limited access to quality
healthcare, inadequate medical infrastructure, shortage of trained healthcare
professionals especially in rural areas are just a few of the barriers that
impede the delivery of health services.
In addition to
this so far, all successive governments have completely ignored health sector
and consequently, health funding is one of the lowest in the region.
As a result,
1. Infant and Maternal Mortality Rate is one of
the highest in the world
2. Nearly 40% of children under the age of five
have stunted growth due to chronic malnutrition.
3. A significant portion of the population lacks
access to clean drinking water and proper sanitation. This contributes to
waterborne diseases and overall poor health outcomes.
4. There is a
rising burden of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular
diseases, and cancer, accounting for over 50% of all deaths in Pakistan.
In the face of
these challenges, Indus Hospital and Network has emerged as a beacon of hope.
Established with the mission to provide indiscriminate, quality, and absolutely
free healthcare services to the people of Pakistan.
Indus Health
has grown from a single hospital in Karachi to a nationwide network of
healthcare facilities. Our hospitals and outreach centres offer comprehensive
medical services, ranging from primary care to complex surgeries and
procedures.
Indus Health’s
approach is holistic. We focus not only on treating illnesses but also on
preventing them through extensive community outreach programs. Our mobile
health units travel to the most remote areas, providing vaccinations, maternal
and child health services, and health education. By addressing the root causes
of health issues, we strive to create sustainable health improvements in the
communities we serve.
Our efforts are
made possible by the unwavering support of donors, volunteers, and partners
from around the world. Here in Australia, Indus Health Australia plays a
crucial role in raising awareness about the health crisis in Pakistan.
Generous contributions from Pakistani diaspora have enabled us to further
expand our services. Indus health Australia now has DGR Status which means that
Donations are Tax Deductable.
I would like to
