South Asian Muslim Association of Australia (SAMAA) Celebrated Jashne Buzurg
SAMAA celebrated Jashne Buzurg on 17 Jan 2009 at Auburn Town Hall. Nearly 300 people attended the festivities including large number of elderly and seniors, members, volunteers, government officials and families of South Asian origin. The speakers requested the elderly of South Asian Muslim community to register with SAMAA. Those who can spare some time are requested to join as volunteer and avail an opportunity to be part of a noble cause by serving the elderly. The voluntary services include arranging picnics for elderly, transporting them to the mosques for Friday prayers, help them in day to day shopping, cook food for them, take them to doctor etc. SAMAA has now introduced the system of paid volunteers also where volunteers can be paid for the work they do or the personal expenses they incur in serving the elderly. SAMAA has been negotiating with NSW transcultural Aged care service to provide religious and cultural specific services in existing nursing homes. In long run SAMAA intends to establish aged care facilities such as nursing homes and a retirement village.
To meet its
objectives, SAMAA is setting up two funds:
1: Voluntary Service Fund : This will fund the voluntary services offered by
SAMAA to its elderly.
2: Elderly Home Fund : This fund will be utilized to build our own aged care
facilities.
The details of these funds are being worked out and will be made available to
