Australia and Pakistan Deepen Cooperation on Border Management and Transnational Crime

Australia and Pakistan reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation during the Ninth Round of the Joint Working Group (JWG) on Border Management and Transnational Crime, held in Canberra on 11 December 2024.

The discussions focused on shared challenges and opportunities. Both sides acknowledged the need for collaborative strategies to address issues such as irregular migration and transnational crime.

Key outcomes included enhanced information sharing and operational-level coordination to combat human trafficking networks; capacity-building initiatives to support Pakistan’s border enforcement mechanisms and strengthening regional partnerships to address migration and transnational crime collectively.

The Australian side particularly acknowledged the contributions made by the Pakistani Diaspora in Australia in diverse fields, including healthcare, education, construction and infrastructure development and information technology.

The meeting concluded with both countries reiterating their dedication to real-time information sharing, operational improvements, and regular dialogues to address mutual challenges effectively.
