Memorable Performance by Qavi Khan and Uzma Gilani on Sydney Stage

Javed Nazar, the soul behind 'Koocha e Saqafat Australia' should be commended for giving Australia's Pakistani community a chance to see Pakistani legends live on stage. Javed Nazar with the help of his elder brother Anjum Ayaz, the internationally known sculpture artist, painter and dramatist, staged Manto's story in Sydney with famous television and film artist Qavi Khan and Sydney based famous Pakistani artist Uzma Gilani with local artists Farjad Mahmood, Sanjeev Raja, Hamza Tariq and Reema Gilani in supporting role. Ayaz directed his own creation “Aoo Manto Karain”.

It was a memorable evening when the legendary artist Qavi Khan appeared with Uzma Gilani on stage and reminded the audience the magic he always produced when he was on stage or on TV and film screens. Anjum Ayaz had only few days to prepare and rehearse with the artists, but he is a theatre veteran and not much work required when artists like Qavi and Uzma were to perform in a well-directed play.

The best part of the evening was “Guftugu” between Qavi Khan and Uzma Gilani. Uzma with her questions was guiding the star to the different stages of his illustrated career and his life. Qavi didn’t mince any words while narrating his professional and personal life and the strong emotions he demonstrated were not acts but words coming out of his heart. He also talked about his failures as a film maker, about his life partner and his love with his children. He earned a well-deserved standing ovation from the audience.

Hon.Shaoquett Moselmane, the NSW MP was the Chief Guest and Consul General of Pakistan Abdul Aziz Uqaili were also among the audience and in their speeches they paid rich tributes to the artists and presented shields to the overseas and local artists.

On this occasion Koocha e Saqafat Australia given a special Award to the First Muslim member of Parliament Honourable Shaoquett Moselmane presented by CG Mr. Abdul Aziz Uqaili.
