It was attended by more than 100 people who enjoyed the evening thoroughly. SAMAA officials briefed the attendees with the progress of its programs. Speakers told the attendees that SAMAA has now set up two funds to run its programs:

1- Benevolent Service Fund: This will fund the voluntary services offered by SAMAA to its elderly.
2- Elderly Home Fund: This fund will be utilized to build our own aged care facilities.

Under benevolent service program, SAMAA’s team of volunteers help elderly of the community in their day to day needs such as providing transport for Friday prayers, doctors’ appointment, shopping, social event etc. They can also cook food for them and help them in general household work. SAMAA has now introduced paid volunteers program where volunteers can be paid for the work they do or the expenses they incur in providing such a service.

SAMAA officials requested community to support it in the programs by registering themselves as volunteers. They also requested the South Asian Muslim elderly to register with SAMAA and tell them about their needs. SAMAA is also negotiating with a nursing home to make provisions for religious and cultural needs of the South Asian Muslims so that it can arrange placement of the elderly needing aged care in this facility. A senior aged care expert Laila Khan told the attendees about the issues relating to aged care.

Urdu poets thrilled the crowd with their poetry recitation. Apart from many Sydney poets, famous poetess Nosheen Gilani who has recently shifted to Sydney and visiting Indian poet Dr Arman Najami entertained the crowd with their thought provoking poetry.
