Pakistan qualifies for Tent-pegging World Cup after 10 years

Acting President PAA Insaf Khan hosted a dinner in the honour of winner Pakistani Tent-pegging team

Tent pegging is practised around the world, but is especially popular in Australia, India, Israel, Oman, Pakistan, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. The Olympic Council of Asia included tent pegging as an official sport in 1982, and the International Federation for Equestrian Sports recognised it as an official equestrian discipline in 2004.

In Pakistan tent pegging is known as Neza Bazi as well. It is played in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and some parts of Sindh and Balochistan. There are many clubs who have owned different and unique style of Turban and Waistcoat to identify their clubs. People decorate their horses for the competition. Every club arrange a Neza Bazi competition. All clubs are invited to participate in the competition. There are some specific shows being arranged since many decades. National Horse and Cattle Show is one of them. It is held at the Fortress Stadium Lahore every year usually in end of February or at first week of March. Tent pegging is a part of this event. Clubs from all the districts of Pakistan participates there.

From 4th to 8th January 2018,Tentpegging World Cup Qualifier held in Australia.Pakistan Tent-pegging team have won two gold and two silver medals in the qualifiers, which were held in Tamworth, New South Wales, Australia. The Tent-pegging World Cup is going to be held in Moscow in September 2018. The tournament featured teams from Pakistan, India, Australia and Arab Emirates.

Pakistani team comprises of Nigah Hussain (Captain), Fazeel Ahmad Bhatti, Irfan Mehmood, Nasir Gowance, Rashid Warraich, Dr. Farooq Ahmad (Manager) and Malik Haroon Bindyal (coach). Prince Malik Ata Muhammad Khan specially came with team for encourage players for victory.

On Tuesday, 9th January 2018, Acting President of PAA Mr Insaf Ali Khan hosted a dinner in the honour of the winner Pakistani Tent-pegging team. The dinner was held at the “Shaahi Tandoori Restaurant, Enmore Road Sydney. The Welcome event was attended by Consul General of Pakistan Abdul Majid Yousfani, Former Consul General Azam Mohammed and leading members of the Australian Pakistani Community.

Raja Taseer was MC of the evening. Host Insaf Khan and CG Abdul Majid Yousfani congratulates Pak team. Manager Dr Farooq Ahmad of Faisalabad Agricultural University introduces players and said that this team was purely elected on Merit & we are proud on result “defeated Australian team in Australia”.
