PAKISTAN'S BUSINESS DELEGATION OF TMA (TERRY TOWELS MANUFACTURERS) WILL VISIT SYDNEY & MELBOURNE - MEETINGS WITH AUSTRALIAN COUNTERPARTS BEING PLANNED
A 12 members business delegation of Pakistan's Towel Manufacturers
Association (TMA) comprising Managing Directors and Proprietors of leading towel
manufacturers of Pakistan are visiting Australia (Sydney and Melbourne) from 27
April to 4 May 2014. The objective of the visit is to survey the market, gather
market intelligence and explore business opportunities in the Australia - New
Zealand region, which has remained untapped or under-tapped by Pakistani
manufacturers / exporters. Presently, the visiting delegates are exporting terry
towels to leading brands in USA, Europe, Middle East, Japan, etc. In 2013, a few
of them exported huge quantities of terry towels all over the world, worth more
than US$ 60 Million. The delegation will hold meetings with Australian Importers
& Wholesalers in Sydney (28 & 29 April 2014) and Melbourne (31 April & 1 May
2014) and display their products in an EXHIBITION style.
Mr. Abdul Aziz Uqaili, the Consul General, who is also Trade Minister of
Pakistan in Australia, has invited all Pakistanis, Australians of Pakistani
descent and other businessmen in Australia who are associated with the terry
towels industry (imports, wholesale and etc.) to join him in a BRAINSTORMING
SESSION for successful conduct of the delegation, to be held in the Consulate
General of Pakistan Sydney, Level 7, 32 Martin Place, Sydney CBD 2000 at 2.30 pm

Earlier, it was decided in Australia-Pakistan 4th Joint Trade Committee (JTC) Meeting, held in Islamabad on 19 June 2013, that both countries will exchange trade delegations to further boost bilateral trade. Mr. Paul Grigson, Deputy Secretary, DFAT Canberra and Mr. Peter Heyward, Australian High Commissioner Islamabad, had attended the meeting on behalf of the Commonwealth Government of Australia. The TMA business delegation has been organized in the backdrop of such consultations between the two countries / nations. Besides, another business delegation from Pakistan is in offing and is likely to arrive in June 2014.
The bilateral trade between
Pakistan and Australia was A$ 810.634 Million in FY 2012-13, out of which
Pakistan's exports to Australia amounted to A$ 178.798 Million. Thus, the trade
balance was (and still is) heavily tilted in favor of Australia to the tune of
A$ 453.038 Million. The export of TERRY TOWELS (bedlinen & towels), both for
institutional and home use, was 41.06 % of the total Pakistani exports to
Australia. Hence, terry towels (Man Made Textiles) of Pakistan are very
important products for the Australian markets and may be found in many chains of
stores in Australia.
