High Commission for Pakistan hosts an exclusive event to Unveil the Wonders of Pakistani Tourism
On Friday evening of 20th September 2024, in a vibrant celebration of Pakistan’s rich cultural and natural heritage, the High Commission for Pakistan organised an event titled “Discover & Celebrate: Unveiling the Wonders of Pakistani Tourism”.
The event featured a documentary that took the audience on a spectacular journey across Pakistan’s most iconic tourist destinations. The event also included exclusive messages from renowned Australian mountaineers and adventurers Allie Pepper, who summited K-2 last month, and Sonia Thomas. They shared their experiences of exploring Pakistan’s majestic peaks and rugged terrains.
The main highlight of the event was an exclusive launch of the book, “Reverie of the Highlands: A Visual Journey through Pakistan’s Spectacular North” by Gaynor Shaw. The book, an ode to the northern regions of Pakistan, is a stunning visual narrative that captures the untouched beauty of the highlands.
The book launch was followed by an interactive session in which the Author Gaynor Shaw, her spouse, former Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan H.E. Geoffery Shaw and the High Commissioner for Pakistan shared their views about tourism in Pakistan and answered questions from the audience.
During the discussion, Gaynor Shaw talked about traversing the rugged terrains of Pakistan, and how the country’s landscapes left an indelible mark on her. She said “Pakistan’s northern highlands are a hidden gem, and through this book, I hope to reveal the untold stories of its mountains, rivers, and valleys. The people of Pakistan, with their warm hospitality, made this journey not just memorable, but transformative”. H.E. Geoffrey Shaw also praised the natural and cultural treasures of Pakistan. He stated that “the warmth of the people and the grandeur of the landscapes are unforgettable. This book is not just a personal journey but a tribute to the vibrant diversity of Pakistan”.
The event ended with a traditional Rubab performance by Sumaira Khan and her musical group, evoking the cultural richness and mystique of Pakistan’s heritage. The guests, which included representatives from Australian government departments, members of the diplomatic corps, prominent academicians, tour operators, media professionals, and members of the Pakistani community, attended the event, reflecting the broad interest in fostering cultural and tourism ties between Australia and Pakistan. The guests also interacted with the author and the High Commissioner during the reception.
The High Commission looks forward to continuing its efforts to promote cultural exchanges and tourism between Australia and Pakistan.
