Pakistan High Commission New Zealand arranged a Truck Art Exhibition in Wellington

Commission in collaboration with a Kiwi Photographer, Mr. Peter Grant, organized
a Truck Art Exhibition, “Painting Pakistan Proud’ at Wellington on 9 May, 2013.
The opening ceremony was held at Pataka Art Museum Porirua, Wellington. The
Mayor of Porirua, Mr Nick Leggett graced the occasion. Members of diplomatic
community, senior officials of New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
Trade, a large number of local Kiwis and members of the Pakistani community
attended the exhibition.
Besides photographs of Peter Grant showcasing the ‘art on wheels’ objects
painted in Truck art style were at display. The center of everyone’s attraction
however, was Younous Nawas, talented painter from Pakistan who painted a vintage
van in the truck art style using his sure and expert strokes. With his pleasant
personality and full command over his work he generated a lot of interest among
the viewers.
Anjum Rana who is a recipient of UNESCO Award for Cultural heritage and painter
Younus Nawaz were invited to New Zealand to showcase this very unique Pakistani
art.
Speaking at the occasion, the High Commissioner for Pakistan to New Zealand,
H.E. Ms Zehra Akbari, highlighted the cultural richness and diversity of
Pakistan. She said that rich and colourful heritage of Pakistan and diversity of
its culture and tradition inspires the imagination of our creative artists. The
exhibition showcases the Truck art which is a very visible and colourful
manifestation of street art in Pakistan. She lauded the efforts put in by Kiwi
photographer Peter Grant who came up with the brilliant idea of organizing this
exhibition.
The truck art exhibition will continue at Wellington from 9-23 May, 2013 and
later on it will be shifted to Auckland from 1-19 June 2013. The art enthusiasts
in New Zealand will have a good opportunity to view the colourful and vibrant
truck art.
