Punjabi Film Stars have Arrived in Sydney
One world entertainment is
the Brainchild of Dr Amanullah Khan, a renowned physician in the field of
oncology and hematology and a graduate of King Edward Medical College in Lahore.
He serves as President of Cancer Center Associates, a private physician group in
Dallas. He has to contributed to multiple civic causes. To mention a few he has
served on the President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific
Islanders and by governor’s appointment he has served his home state as a member
of the Texas Health Care Information Council, the Texas Board of Health, the
Governor's Task Force on Homeland Security and currently serves on the Texas
Medical Board. Additionally, he has received numerous awards including "Honorary
Citizenship Award" by the Mayor of Dallas, "Presidential Gold Medal" awarded by
the Pakistan Academy of Medical Sciences, and the "Outstanding Contribution in
Medicine" awarded by the Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber of Commerce.
His gentle nature and deep respect for human life are beautifully reflected in
his poetry and lyrics as well as in his photography which are just a few of his
many passions. He is a published Punjabi Poet and his book Mukar Gayian Nain
Shawaan was published in 2004. His creative passion has recently culminated into
his production, “VIRSA”

Most renowned and popular Singer from Pakistan who not only has been admired for
his versatile singing in his own land but has been appreciated and loved by the
music lovers across world. His debut in India with "Bin tere kya hai jeena" from
the movie "Woh Lamhe“ shot him instant fame.
Virsaa makes a strong statement about remaining true to one’s values, culture and upbringing even as we constantly adapt and adjust to the society around us. It portrays the identity conflicts of immigrant Asians in Western societies and explores ways of addressing these so that the succeeding generations can benefit from the best facets of both the cultures.
Gulshan Grover's
repertoire extends from playing the good guy roles like the one he essayed in
Nagesh Kukunoor's Teen Deewarein, where he plays the reformist-jailor, to being
the worst man in the vicinity - a role like Chattan Singh in Soumitra Ranade's
Janjantram, Mamamtram. In Virsa he is playing one of the most important
characters.
Sardar Joginder Singh, Ranvir Singh’s father, is a 70 years old man from a
village, Kartarpur, in Punjab. He is a simple, honest, hard working man with a
great bonding with his culture and traditions. He has lived all his life in
Punjab and wants to spend his last days here too. He is not interested in going
to Australia but Ranvir cons him and takes him to Sydney to live with his
family. However, even in Australia, Sardarji pines for the smells, sounds and
sights of his beloved Punjab. His soul belongs to his homeland and he can never
be happy anywhere else.
Kanwaljit Singh is an
Indian actor who has performed in films as well as television serials. He has
acted in Hindi as well as Punjabi films.
Ranvir Singh Grewal, 45, is a successful restaurant owner in Sydney. He was a
simple village boy from Punjab, who came to Australia about 20 years ago and
made it big. His success turned his head and he started looking down on his
culture and traditions, his people and their values. He felt that he was
superior to the other Indians and was more like the white folks around him. He
turned his back to Indian values and traditions, beliefs and customs and adopted
the Western lifestyle with a vengeance. He started believing that making money
is all that matters and ethics and morality have no relevance in today’s world.
Arya Babbar son of Sh. Raj
Babbar has started his career with Hindi films and created a name for himself.
He is being launched for the first time in Punjabi Film. His character brief in
the film is as follows.
Yuvraj is not just Westernised but also completely spoilt. He has enough money
and more to throw around and wants to enjoy the good life. He has no aim in
life, no goals, no ambitions. Girls, drugs, alcohol, parties are all that
interest him. Since Ranvir Singh does not believe in morals and ethics, he has
not passed on any values to his son either. Amaan is a sensible and responsible
young man, and he is saddened to see Yuvraj waste his life away, but this is one
area where Yuvraj is not willing to listen to him.
Mehreen Raheel is amongst
the top models of Pakistan, she certainly does have a lot to beam about,
especially with all the praise coming her way ever since she has joined
mainstream showbiz. Today we can see her on every second billboard we come
across, be it Lipton, any designer label, Sooper Biscuits or Telenor Pakistan
advertisements. She is doing the leading lady role opposite arya babbar.
Young, beautiful, sexy, intelligent and confident, Mahi, a young lady from
Chandigarh, is a combination of beauty and brains. She is a modern Indian woman
who is contemporary in her outlook and yet traditional where her core values are
concerned.
Mahi has been studying in Australia for the past 2 years but she is not overawed
by this society and culture. She still respects her traditions and cultures and
retains her values of right and wrong.
Aparna Sharma is launched
into the feature film segment through Virsa, a young bubbly girl, fantastic
dancer best known for her reliance ad doing Meet’s character as follows.
Meet Grewal, 18, is Ranvir Singh’s daughter and Yuvraj’s younger sister. In
attitude and outlook, she is an extensions of her father and her brother. Born
and brought up in Australia, she has had a completely westernised upbringing and
looks up to the white society while looking down upon her own people and
culture. Parties, night life, stylish cars and alcohol feature prominently in
her life.
Noman Ejaz is one of the
top ranking actors from Pakistan who is playing Nawaz Ali’s character as
follows.
Nawaz Ali, 45, hails from Lahore, Pakistan. About 20 years ago, he migrated to
Sydney, Australia, in search of work and a better life. He met Ranvir here and
they became the best of friends. He also opened a store and found moderate
success in this venture. He is able to provide a comfortable life to his family
but he is not as rich or successful as Ranvir.
