Australian dignitaries deepest condolences to the families of all the victims of the horrific attack on a school in Peshawar

Minister for Foreign Affairs The Hon Julie Bishop MP
Ministerial statement on school attack by the Pakistan Taliban

17 December 2014,

I have today spoken to HE Sartaj Aziz, Adviser to the Pakistan Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs (Foreign Minister equivalent), to offer on behalf of the Australian people our deepest condolences to the families of all the victims and the people of Pakistan in the wake of the horrific attack on a school in Peshawar.

I am appalled at the tragic loss of lives in the attack by the Pakistan Taliban. The killing of children is the most heinous of crimes.

We share a common sense of grief and outrage at this senseless attack.

Australia stands together with Pakistan in our determination to eradicate terrorism and the threat of violent extremism in the region and globally. Such attacks will only strengthen our resolve to combat and prevent terrorism.

ATTACK ON STUDENTS IN PAKISTAN

Labor condemns the brutal massacre of 132 Pakistani students and nine teachers by Taliban forces in a school in Peshawar.

We express our deep sorrow for the families of the victims and for the wider Pakistani community which has been rocked by this barbaric act.

The malicious targeting of innocent civilians is always beyond excuse, and to murder children unlocking a brighter future for themselves through education is truly unconscionable.

As Australians mourns the loss of innocent lives in Sydney this week, we offer our full support for the people of Pakistan in recovering from this tragedy.

CONDOLENCES FOR VICTIMS OF PESHAWAR SCHOOL MASSACRE

I offer my deepest sympathies and condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the Peshawar school massacre in north-west Pakistan.

This callous and brutal crime has resulted in the death of more than 141 innocent victims, overwhelmingly young children, and left many more seriously injured.

It is hard to fathom the cruelty and depravity of this act, which has left a school community, a city and a country in mourning.

I know that members of the Pakistani diaspora living in NSW and across Australia are deeply saddened by news of this attack.

Pakistan is a good friend, with its people known for their generosity and kind spirit.

On behalf of the NSW Government, I join all Pakistani Australians in praying for the survivors and their families, and for justice to be served against the perpetrators.
